Middle Division Student Council

Looking back at the year, the Middle Division Student Council has done so much to bring 7th and 8th grade together through the events and fundraisers they’ve hosted during the year.  The council has done a variety of things that influenced the Middle Division in a positive way. However, there are some things that the council could be doing and they are not. There are seven roles in the council, all but two roles are reserved for seventh graders as they are the representatives for their grade. Eighth-grade roles include president, vice president, creative director, secretary, and treasurer. So far, the council has hosted two social events and they held two fundraisers. The week before winter break the Student Council hosted an off-campus dance, and a movie night in April. The council also sold doughnuts at the school and raised money by collecting coins for a gaga ball pit. There are more events to come before the end of the year that they are hosting.

Each student’s role in the council comes with its own responsibilities. The president of the council Terrell Woods stated,

“The biggest challenge of being president is making everyone happy with the decisions I make.”

He says it’s hard to satisfy everyone at once.  James Elverson who is the secretary of student council stated,

“I felt excited and happy to help the middle school when I was elected by my peers.”

Unlike Terrell, he is very satisfied with student council and he does not think that they should change anything. Lastly, one of the seventh-grade representatives, Zarine Nanavati, expressed

“Student council should do more charity fundraisers and give back to the community instead of raising money for our school. I think that student council next year should do more volunteer work and help the community more.”

Hopefully, the council takes the advice the student body is giving them. Do you think the student council is doing enough and if not what should they do?
